The man accused of illegally voting in the July Special Election for the Marshalltown Ward 4 City Council seat has submitted a not guilty plea. Jorge Oscar Sanchez Vasquez, 42, of Marshalltown, submitted his written initial appearance document yesterday. He is next scheduled to appear in court October 22nd.
The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office conducted the fraud investigation and found Sanchez Vasquez registered to vote before casting a ballot during the special election. While he is a legal resident of the United States, Sanchez Vasquez is not a citizen.
Fonesca won this election 340 to 264, this one vote will not change the outcome, but is a good reminder to double check your voter status leading up to the November General Election.
