The City Council Chambers were packed full last night for a few different reasons. One of those reasons was the approval and swearing in of the new Fire Chief, Christopher Cross. Last night the Marshalltown City Council unanimously approved the recommendation to make Cross the next Fire Chief.
Chief Cross was the guest for Central Iowa Today, yesterday on KFJB. He shares that he has been a firefighter for 30 years, and he says public service was something he always wanted to do.
Chief Cross then served with multiple Fire Departments, West Burlington, Clive, Des Moines, and Windsor Heights. He learned that to move up the ladder he needed to attend paramedic school and soaked in all the experience he could.
Chief Cross came to Marshalltown with his wife to scope it out and see if this Deputy position checked all of his boxes. They decide this is the right community and opportunity for their family. Since 2016, Christopher Cross has been the Deputy Fire Chief and as of November 11th, 2024, he is now the official Fire Chief.
