The big discussion topic on Monday night at the Marshalltown City Council meeting was over funding for the Arts and Culture Alliance. Last year, the Marshalltown City Council approved an agreement to send $125,000 annually to the Arts and Culture Alliance through the Automated Traffic Cameras. Iowa State Law will no longer allow that, as the money needs to be spent on infrastructure or public safety. Executive Director, Amber Danielson, made a presentation to kick off the discussion.
Danielson talks about how the Arts and Culture Alliance will be writing grants to help with community projects, putting on different events like a Take “Part”y, and creating more art partnerships and community engagement. Once Danielson was finished, Councilor Greg Nichols spoke first.
It was Councilor Jeff Schneider who spoke next
Barry Kell then seconded that motion. The public began to give their opinions as local artists were there in support while there were a few others who were against this plan. Eventually the City Council voted 4 – 3 to bring a resolution for the agreement. That will be on the agenda for the next City Council meeting
