On Monday, November 18th, the Marshalltown Fire Department was called out to a structure fire in the 500 block of S 5th Street. The call came in around 2am, and upon arrival, fire personnel could see smoke coming from the rear and roofline of a large machine shop type building. Fire fighters entered the building and found a smoldering fire in the outer wall and roof.

No injuries were reported during this fire, the property owner found the fire and contacted 911 for help. The cause of the unintentional fire is an improperly installed chimney of a wood burning stove. The fire department was on the scene for about 2 hours, they were assisted by the Marshalltown Police and Alliant Energy.
