Monday, around 1pm, the Marshalltown Fire Department was dispatched to 1404 S Center Street for a house fire. The home was a single-family split-level house and the fire was found in the living room area.

Once the fire was extinguished, the fire department found a deceased elderly woman in the immediate fire area. The Marshalltown Fire Department then called Marshalltown Police Detectives and Special Agents from the Iowa Arson and Explosives Bureau.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation. We will have Fire Chief Christopher Cross on Central Iowa Today, Monday afternoon around 12:45.
