Following an investigation by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau, Tonya Weber, age 35, of Marshalltown, pled guilty to one count of Presenting False information, a class D felony. The investigation began in April 2024, following the receipt of information by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau suggesting that Weber had submitted false information to an insurer.

The investigation found that Weber knowingly misrepresented material facts to receive insurance benefits to which she was not entitled. Weber reported an injury from a fall in the shower of a hotel room at the Meskwaki Bingo and Casino Hotel in February 2024. When the Casino and Hotel requested photo evidence, Weber submitted an image of a bruised limb that was later discovered to have been downloaded from the internet.

Weber received a five year suspended prison sentence and placed on supervised probation for a period of five years. Weber was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,025 and restitution in the amount of $ 1,152.
