The Bobcats returned to the floor for their first of three basketball games this weekend last night at the Roundhouse against the Cedar Rapids Jefferson J-Hawks. Here’s KFJB News Reporter David Braga
Looking to bounce back from their loss in the Highway 30 Rivalry on Friday night, the Bobcat girls team got off to a slow start, scoring just two points in the first quarter. It was a struggle to put the ball through the hoop in the second quarter as well as the Cats mustered just 9 points in the half as they trailed 21-9 at the break. The third quarter was when the J-Hawks really hammered the Cats, putting the game on ice with a 25-3 drubbing over the 8 minute quarter. The cats would score 11 in the fourth, but it was far too little too late as they fell 54-23.
Following them, the boys looked to get their first win of the second part of the season. The cats scored the first four points of the game, but it was the J-Hawks who responded in a big way, going on a 18-5 run to close the quarter. Cedar Rapids continued the flurry of points, capping of the second quarter with a buzzer-beating floater to put them up 16 headed to the half. There it became the Kyle Smith show as he knocked down 4 three pointers getting the cats within three headed to the fourth. Unfortunately for the cats that was as close as they’d get as the J-Hawks stymied the Cat comeback, knocking down some key free throws and taking down Marshalltown 59-54.
The Cats will be back in action Tuesday night against the Des Moines North Polar Bears from right here in Marshalltown at the Roundhouse.
