Due to unsafe ice conditions the Ice Fishing Derby in Zearing next month has been cancelled. Story County Conservation posted on their social media pages to stay off of the ice at Dakins Lake. Conservation staff found that the outlet valve at the lake has been damaged and water was leaking. This caused a water loss, and creates space between the ice and the current water level.

This creates an unsafe situation for anyone to go out on the ice. Story County Conservation is urging everyone to stay away from Dakins lake until further notice.
