On Sunday, the Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a fire in the 100 block of E State Street. Upon arrival, the fire department found a two story apartment building with a working fire in the 2nd floor. The firefighters deployed 2 ladders to search the upstairs of the building. No victims were found and the fire was quickly extinguished.
They found that the building had working smoke alarms which alerted other residents of the fire. The cause of the fire determined to be the careless discarding of smoking materials and unintentional.
The Marshalltown Fire Department was assisted by the Marshalltown Police Department, Alliant Energy, and Unity Point EMS.
