Yesterday (Wednesday) there was a protest held outside the Marshall County Courthouse. Approximately 25 locals showed up despite the dropping temperatures and ice and rain looming. Protesters chanted things such as “We will not be violent, but we will not be silent” while holding signs displaying a great multitude of messages such as “Save our Public Schools” and “We didn’t vote for Elon”.

The protest was all part of the 50501 Movement (50 states, 50 protests, one day) which called for people to gather at state capitols and protest the actions of current president Donald Trump and his actions since taking office on January 20th. Julie Lang, who began to organize the event in Marshalltown knowing not everyone wanted to travel to Des Moines, says there are more protests planned in the future. They will be monthly, held the first Wednesday of every month at 5PM.
