The Marshalltown City Council discussed the median and triangle median on Center Street near Hy-Vee last night. As the city plans to reconstruct that median to be similar to other medians on Center Street, the conversation last night was whether to keep the triangle median in the right lane, forcing people to turn into Hy-Vee.
That is City Councilor Jeff Schneider who also asked for feedback from other Councilors on this issue. Heather Thomas, Marshalltown Public Works Director, responded to Schneiders comments.
Thomas says at that time, there was not engineering study it was just an attempt to solve a perceived issued. Thomas says with or without the triangle median, signage for the right lane to turn right will stay. Chief Jones was asked to comment his thoughts.
The council voted 4 – 3 to move forward with just the painted median and then voted to approve the project for the Center Street median. The city will monitor this intersection and entrance to Hy-Vee and could bring the raised median back if necessary.
