The Center Street, Main Street Streetscape project will kickoff on Monday, April 7th. Throughout this project, the city wants to have gravel sidewalks so people can get around downtown and they have a goal to minimize any disruptions to sidewalks in front of businesses.
That is Public Works Director, Heather Thomas. She says the water hook ups are domestic hook ups, so they are a smaller pipe and the city wants to bring fire suppression services to all the buildings, especially since some of the buildings will have residential on the 2nd floor.
Adding these lines and other utility could rip up a sidewalk in front of a business for 24 – 48 hours. Thomas says they are also increasing lighting in downtown, especially in the alleyways
Thomas says they are encouraging Business Owners to light up any part of the alleyways. There is a grant through the Marshalltown Central Business District business owners can get.
Thomas wants to work with business owners throughout this project. If there is a business on Main Street with any questions you can reach out to Thomas and her team.
