With the summer coming up and providing more and more opportunity to get outside, Marshall County Conservation director Emily Herring says she’s thankful that here in Iowa, there isn’t too much dangerous wildlife to worry about here in central Iowa.

Herring says a good rule to follow is the “rule of thumb” which she explained to our listeners, in case they ever do run into something out there in the wild.

Emily also says that if you do run into wild animals, you shouldn’t try to feed them. She explains that if people start feeding animals, they’ll get used to approaching people, expecting to be fed. Be sure if you’re out and about this summer, you’re enjoying the great trails and state parks safely.
