On Sunday the Marshalltown Aquatic Center held a Free Open Swim Day all paid for by Marty Mitchell Funeral Home. This is something Marty Mitchell has done for many year since the tragic drowning of the 4 individuals in the Iowa River. Mitchell pays for the attendance of everyone 1 day per summer, and this year nearly 800 people showed up to the pool.
Due to rules from the state, the pool capped capacity at 500 people, and once that number was hit there was a line outside. Geoff Hubbard, Marshalltown Park and Recreation Director, thanked the staff for all their work so far this summer but praised them for their hard work on Sunday. It was the busiest day for the pool yet this summer, but the staff, according to Hubbard, “Rocked all day long”.
