Every year the Monday of the Iowa State Fair is Veterans Day. The Iowa Veterans Home and Commandant, Todd Jacobus, always plays a role on that Monday. This year the theme for the day was remember D-Day as this year was the 80th Anniversary of soldiers storming Normandy.
That is Karl Lettow, Public Information Officer with the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs. The Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs is a recent change that added the Iowa Veterans Home under the same umbrella as all Veteran Services.
Lettow says beyond the parade they hold a patriotic concert and a concert with the Iowa Military Veterans Band. Veterans Day will always be the Monday of the Iowa State Fair, August 11th, 2025.
