Father-son duo of Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will emcee this year’s Emmy Awards, marking the first time that a father and son will share the honor.

Eugene, 77, and Dan, 41 — best-known for portraying Johnny and David Rose in Schitt’s Creek — shared in a press release: “For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough. We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on Sept. 15.”

Dan and Eugene made history in 2020 as the first father and son to win major awards in the same year for “Schitt’s Creek.”  Eugene won for outstanding comedy actor, with Dan winning for supporting comedy actor. Dan Levy also won Emmys for writing and directing, while both won the outstanding comedy series Emmy as exec producers.

Craig Erwich, president, Disney Television Group, shared: “Eugene’s and Dan’s comedic intuition and uncanny ability to capture the hearts of viewers will make for a memorable Emmys telecast honoring this year’s best and brightest.” TV Academy chair Cris Abrego added:  “We are thrilled to welcome two generations of comedy genius to the Emmy’s stage as hosts. Eugene and Dan Levy are known for creating unforgettable laugh-out-loud moments on screen, and together, they are super-charged. I cannot wait for Emmy fans to see what they have in store for all of us.”

Eugene Levy is nominated this year for his Apple TV+ series “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy,” which is up for outstanding hosted nonfiction series or special.

The 76th Emmy Awards, hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, will take place on Sunday, Sept. 15, live on ABC at 8 p.m. EDT, with Hulu streaming the show the following day.
