Announced yesterday on the City of Marshalltown Facebook page, State Street is now fully open. The parking lot across from the Park and Recreation office is still closed as they will be pouring concrete over the next few days. The parking lot added some lights and fixed a few poles during this process. Now that State Street is finished and open, the focus shifts to Main Street.
Last night the City held a meeting at the Coliseum to talk over the Main Street project. It was explained that the Main Street project will have 3 phases, starting with Center Street. Phase 1 will be from State Street to Church Street along Center, which is slated to start in the Spring of 2025. Phase 2 will be on Main Street, from Center to 1st Ave. A small subphase will start at the end of 1st Ave, to prevent 2 intersections being closed in 2026. Then phase 3 will run from 1st to 3rd Ave on Main Street.
Many topics were discussed last night from parking to sidewalks to which utilities will be affected and more. As this project approaches more information will be given as needed.
