Last night was election night and 97 of 99 counties in Iowa have reported their results to the Secretary of State (as of 7am today). Results can be found on 1230kfjb.com for some local races, or at sos.iowa.gov. Looking at the Iowa House District 52 race between incumbent Sue Cahill and David Blom. Here is what Cahill said last night before results came in.
When Cahill ran in 2020, that was during COVID, and in 2022 Cahill ran unopposed. David Blom and the republicans had a party at Legends and it was all smiles all night.
While the parties were anxiously waiting for results Marshall County finally uploaded them around 11pm. For Iowa House District 52, Blom pulls ahead just barely and beats out Cahill, 6,435 votes to 5,869 votes. Blom will replace Cahill in the Iowa House next year.
Moving on to the other Iowa House races closely watched by KFJB. House District 53 between Tommy Hexter and incumbent Dean Fisher, Fisher wins with 8,877 votes to Hexter’s 6,729.
Iowa House District 51 oversees the northern part of Marshall County and rural Story County. That race is between Ryan Condon and Brett Barker. Story County had issues with some of their vote counting machines, so they needed to count many ballots by hand. Story County has not yet reported any results due to that issue. Barker is currently winning in Marshall County 3,099 to 1,307.
Iowa Senate District 26 also oversees both Marshall and Story County, between Kara Warme and Mike Wolfe. Wolfe was also at the Democrat party last night, and he spoke about the machines in Story County.
With just Marshall County reporting results, Kara Warme has the lead with 9,536 votes to 6,866 for Wolfe. KFJB will continue to follow election results and put updates on our website, 1230kfjb.com.
