Trash talk was back last night at the Marshalltown City Council Meeting. One of the discussion topics was around Chapter 50 garbage, which talks about the type of trucks used in residential areas. This chapter calls for compacting trucks. Area Sanitation has some trucks that are not compacting trucks and was at the meeting last night.
That was Wade Lamb with Area Sanitation. This topic was previously discussed before new City Administrator Carol Webb was hired. She received a complaint about Area Sanitation trucks and their license was up for renewal.
Webb did give Lamb a short extension so he could continue providing service as they discuss this topic. A couple councilors brought up the previous conversation about trash pick up and whether they allowed non compacting trucks to do trash pick up. Heather Thomas, Marshalltown Public Works Director, cleared that up.
As the conversation continued, Councilor Jeff Schneider spoke up about the history of the ordinance.
The Council ended up voting on the motion by Berry Kell, to allow administration approval for a specified duration Area Sanitation to continue business with the caveat that Area Sanitation works to seal and cover their trucks. This passed with a 6 – 1 vote, Schneider the only no vote.
