Earlier this week we checked in with Marshalltown Police Captain Chris Jones talking about Winter Driving safety tips. One thing he mentioned is to have a Winter Emergency Kit for your car. Kim Elder, Marshall County Emergency Management Coordinator, shares some items to keep in that kit.
She also mentions a blanket as something that is probably in your car year round. Extra layers is always good to have handy, as you can always remove layers if you are warm.
Elder says if you end up in a ditch or stranded the best thing to do is to stay put. A vehicle is much larger than a person and can be spotted easier. Also, lights.
Just like Captain Jones said about winter driving, be prepared and plan ahead. The same rule applies to packing the winter car kit. Be prepared for whatever could happen on the roadways. Elder was the guest on Central Iowa Today, yesterday, you can hear the full conversation at 1230kfjb.com under Central Iowa Today.
