The end of 2023, the electricity at the Marshalltown Mall began being shut off due to the Mall owners being delinquent on their electric bill. Individual stores paid their own bill, so the stores were fine to continue operating, but the hallway lights and electricity would be turned off. Marshalltown City Administrator, Carol Webb, recently shared good news about this situation.
Without power in the hallways, stores could only operate if they had a door customers could access from the outside. Multiple stores found new locations around town and left the mall.
Whomever is the new owner will have to generate ideas to bring stores back to the mall and help revive what has been a dark place for over a year.
