The big improvement with the State Street Project was the infrastructure underneath the roads. The crews replaced a 100 year old cast iron water main under state street. The same infrastructure replacement will be taking place during the Main Street project starting this spring.

That is City Councilor Barry Kell, he goes on to talk about adding lines for a sprinkler system to each building on Main Street. He feels since the sidewalks and roads will be dug up, this is the best opportunity they will have.

Monday night the Marshalltown City Council voted to approve creating lines to every building throughout the Main Street project. The cost is estimated at $400,000 for the city. It passed on a 7-0 vote.
