Change your clocks, change your batteries was the message Marshalltown Fire Chief Chirstopher Cross said Friday on Central Iowa Today. He says it is good to look over your fire safety equipment at least twice a year.
He says to make sure you hit the test button and it is working properly before you hang it back up. Chief Cross then talks about the most important location for smoke detectors.
Another spot to make sure to have a fire detector is in the kitchen as that is the most common room for a fire in homes. Chief Cross says it is good to review your home escape plan at this time.
Check the any escape routes and make sure everyone in the house knows how to get out and the equipment is working properly. He says to have a meeting location outside of the house where everyone can meet who has escaped.
