Iowans have been hearing a lot about Red Flag Warnings and Burn Bans as it has been dry throughout the state for a couple of years. Recently some counties across the state had a Red Flag Warning. Marshalltown Fire Chief, Christopher Cross, explains what a Red Flag Warning is.
He says if those conditions add up and create serious fire spread, a red flag warning will be put in place. This is similar to a frost alert, it is about the current weather conditions. He then talks about a Burn Ban and how that would work in Marshall County.
Right now there is no burn ban in place for Marshall County but Fire Chief Christopher Cross is warning people it is dry. The Open Burn Ordinance will start April 1st in Marshalltown.
Head to Marshalltown-ia.gov to learn about all the details of the Open Burn Ordinance. Burning is allowed from 10am – 7pm every day except federal holidays.
