It is Marshalltown’s oldest business and it is in shambles after two roof trusses broke gave way Friday morning, causing the roof to partially collapse. Thompson’s True Value Hardware has been around since 1860. Owner Dave Thompson plans to keep it around for a long time to come. For now, the store is still serving its shoppers.

With meetings with the insurance adjusters slated for this week, Thompson is hoping to begin plotting the future course for the store, whether rebuilding in the current location or moving somewhere near by.
