The inclusion themed crosswalk at Fifth street and Douglas in Ames will be among the topics at tonight’s Ames City Council meeting.

The city made the crosswalk over into an all-inclusive theme three weeks ago….but now the  Federal Highway Administration is asking the City to remove the crosswalk. The federal agency argues the colored pavement is in non-compliance with federal guidelines.

City Attorney Mark Lambert told the Ames Tribune on Monday. “Liability comes down to a negligence standard that would be determined by a judge. And this isn’t an intersection where cars are colliding with each other at 100 mph.”

Lambert reiterated the FHWA has filed a request to remove the colored crosswalk markings, and it’s not a demand or legal order.
