The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released its realignment for the districts for the 2020 football season, which includes a success model and tier alignment.
What does that mean? Marshalltown and Ames will remain as one of 40 teams in Four A. The Association looked at the success of the teams over the past four years. The rankings are led by Dowling Catholic, with Ames 23rd and Marshalltown 31st. The groups are made up of one team from one of six tiers. Marshalltown is in the fifth of the six tiers, along with Cedar Rapids Jefferson, Des Moines Lincoln, Dubuque Hempstead, Council Bluffs Jefferson AND Lincoln, and DAvenport North. Groups were geographically organized. Ames and Marshalltown are now in a group with Ankeny centennial, Des Moines East and Four A newcomer Iowa City Liberty.
This will be a one season set up and will be evaluated. The actual football schedules for the 2020 season will be released next month.
