Meeting basically online last night, the Marshalltown City Council approved the upcoming fiscal year’s budget and capital improvement plan. There was again considerable discussion regarding discussion with the Central Iowa Fair Board on a sidewalk along 12th Avenue. Since the previous Council meeting, Public Works and the Fair Board discussed some options. One was for the City to pay $4,000 for the easeme4nt and provide $10,000 in improvements as part of the project. The Fair Board is expected to counter by asking for an additional $18,000 to cover the purchase of equipment and to pay for employees to clear show from the new sidewalk for 30 years. Councilor Gabe Isom has some concerns about the 30 year time frame.
The Council approved directing staff to offer the 4 thousand in cash and ten thousand in improvements. The Council also approved an agreement with Marshalltown Schools for construction of new tennis courts.
