A fire late Monday night had Ames firefighters had some help from a sprinkler system at an apartment fire.

When crews arrived in the 2800 block of West Street, a small fire was found in a first-floor apartment. The sprinkler system had activated, helping extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported and the damage was estimated at roughly $1,000.
