The two major party candidates running in Iowa’s first congressional district disagreed over changes in the Postal Service, union bargaining rights and the federal minimum wage during last night’s Labor Day debate on Iowa P-B-S. In an extended and sharp exchange, incumbent Abby Finkeanuer and challenger Ashley Hinson disagreed over a STATE law that Finkenauer said “gutted” collective bargaining rights for public sector unions.

The two disagreed over another law that changed the standards for workers compensation cases in Iowa. Hinson says Iowa’s workers compensation benefits were among the richest in the country and the law struck a better balance between workers and employers. Finkenauer says because of the law change, people who get hurt on the job aren’t getting fair compensation.
