You’ve heard the line not all that sparkles is gold. Well, this time of the year, it certainly is for the Salvation Army. In what has turned into a holiday tradition, a one-ounce gold bar was deposited in a red kettle at Hy-Vee yesterday. It was dropped into the kettle being manned by Marshalltown Police in the annual competition between law enforcement and the firefighters.

The bar will be sold to a local vendor with the proceeds going towards the $72,000 Red Kettle goal.
