The Marshall County Board of Supervisors had plenty on their plate this morning, adopting a budget, authorizing Chief Deputy Joel Phillips to assume the responsibilities of the Sheriff’s office as the process continues towards appointing a new Sheriff and accepting the resignation of County Attorney Jennifer Miller and stating that office would be filled via appointment. Going back to the County Sheriff, Supervisor Bill Patten wanted to make sure that everyone was aware that the letter to then Sheriff Steve Hoffman requesting a resignation date was not sent solely by Supervisor Dave Thompson, but as the Chair of the Board of Supervisors, representing all three.

tCounty Auditor Nan Benson shared that as a result of the new voting law signed into law recently, those wanting to collect signatures for any special election, cannot do so until someone is appointed to a position. There is then a 14 day deadline to collect signatures, in the cases of both the Attorney and the Sheriff, 1,828 signatures. They cannot be collected prior to any appointment.
