Some Iowa State Patrol Officers will not be on Iowa roads for a time, but on the border.

Governor Kim Reynolds is sending officers to short-term duty in Texas and Arizona.

Reynolds joins Republican governors from Nebraska, Idaho and Florida in sending officers south. Reynolds, in a written statement, said Iowa law enforcement officials are recovering drugs and weapons being smuggled across the nation’s southern border by drug cartels.

A spokesman for the Iowa Department to Public Safety says between 25 and 30 troopers will spend two weeks at the U-S/Mexico border. Following a request in October 2020, two dozen Iowa National Guard soldiers are already there assisting various law enforcement agencies.
