Here is another signal that we are heading into the colder months of the year. MICA is now accepting applications for LIHEAP, the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program for those over the age of 60 or with a disability at this time. The program provides a one-time payment to assist folks with heating costs between October and April. Ana Ventura, the LIHEAP coordinator for MICA shares what documents you need to apply.
Applications will be taken online this season. This assistance is available in Marshall, Hardin, Tama, Story and Poweshiek counties. Ventura says they typically receive as many as 4,000 applications every season for heating assistance.
