Sunday 24th November 2024

While it was a dreary Sunday, 3.18 inches of rain in Ames, 2.35 in Marshalltown we haven’t had that type of soaking rain for quite a while…but what if the temperature had been around 28 degrees…and that rain was snow. With over three inches of rain, Ames could be buried in roughly 40 inches of snow this morning…Thankfully, that’s not the case, but the DOT is gearing up for the season ahead.

Winter Operations Administrator Craig Bargfrede says preparations are well underway to fight snow.

While salt has been in short supply in previous years, Bargfrede says Iowa has an excellent stockpile of some 240-thousand tons of salt.
