What wind is left after last night might be Mother Nature breathing a sigh of relief. Between the warmth, the wind, the storms and the anticipation it was a nerve-wracking evening across the state and here in Central Iowa.

As the storm front plodded from west to east across the state, the storms that were moving east northeast produced over two dozen tornado warnings and some damage. The western part of Greene County was smacked around as was the Plymouth County town of Kingsley.

The driver of a semi-trailer was killed when his truck was blown over by a severe thunderstorm as it was traveling southbound on Highway 151, just west of Walford, Investigators said the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was thrown from the vehicle.

The strong southwest winds also carried smoke and dust into Iowa that came from wildfires in Kansas.

Marshalltown reported a wind gust of 63 miles per hour around 11:00 last night. Some locations in northern Iowa reported wind gusts overnight in the 70’s. Officially, Marshalltown’s high yesterday was 73, with almost a half-inch of rain, while Ames reported .85 of rain and a high of 74.
