The Marshalltown Fire Department was called to a report of a residential structure fire on Wednesday evening within the city limits of Marshalltown.
At 8:36 p.m., local fire crews were notified of a residential structure fire at 5 East Webster Street on the city’s north side.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered flames coming from the rear of a medium sized, two story, single-family home.
According to a press release, the occupants of the home were away when the fire broke out.
Firefighters initially knocked down the fire by working along the backside of the house, and then extinguished the majority of the fire, which was in the kitchen area. Firefighters then brought in another hose through the front door of the home, at which time they were able to successfully contain the remainder off the fire already in progress along the first floor area.
No injuries were reported.
Local fire crews remained on the scene for approximately five hours.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
