At Monday’s meeting, the Marshalltown City Council approved using monies set aside through the American Rescue Plan Act to help eliminate the city’s general fund deficit of just over $230,000 for the current fiscal year period.

City Finance Director Diana Steiner informed the council that some mistakes had previously been made with city payroll while balancing the current fiscal year budget, resulting in a higher deficit than what was originally projected.

After further review, the council approved a motion authorizing the use of ARPA funds to cover the entire deficit of $231,504.

The council Monday also adopted the 2022-23 strategic plan for the city of Marshalltown as presented.
