A vacant building located along Main West Main Street in downtown Marshalltown was destroyed by fire during the overnight hours on Saturday.
Shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, the Marshalltown Fire Department was called to a report of a structure fire at 110 West Main Street.
When fire crews arrived on the scene, they discovered flames, along with heavy black smoke coming from a vacant two-story building. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the entire second floor and roof were fully involved.
Due to the condition of the building and the extent of the fire, special tactics were performed to battle the blaze.
During the early stages of the fire, the roof collapsed, with the second floor o0f the structure giving way a short time later.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
