The Iowa Falls Fire Department responded to a house fire during the past week in which local firefighters resuscitated a dog that was initially facing death, with another dog perishing in the blaze.
Officials say the blaze broke out Wednesday afternoon at a home occupied by Jason Barhite at 121 High Street.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, there found an attached garage fully engulfed in flames.
Local fire crews were able to contain the fire within 30 minutes, although the garage was considered a total loss.
Heavy smoke and water damage was reported throughout the remainder of the home, as well.
Local fire crews remained on the scene for about two-and-a-half hours.
No people were injured in the fire.
Iowa Falls Fire Chief Scott Eisentrager says the fire started from an electric smoker that was in the garage.
Local officials say Barhite was in the process of buying the house from his mother, and plans to later renovate the structure.
In the meantime, Barhite and his pets, are currently residing with his mother in Wellsburg.
