Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate made a special guest visit to West Marshall High School this week where he presented the school with the prestigious “Carrie Chapman Catt Award Trophy” for outstanding voter registration among high school students within the state of Iowa.
The state’s top election official say’s it’s truly a great honor to receive the Catt Award when you consider the number of high schools that currently exist within the state of Iowa.
Pate says the current voter registration trend among high scho9ol students in Iowa is relatively impressive today when compared with previous generations.
Pate says that although the state of Iowa has traditionally been a leader when it comes to voter registration and overall participation, the fact that young people are becoming more actively involved in the process speaks very highly of the types of values that are bring taught both in schools and in the home environment.
The Carrie Chapman Catt Award is named after the famous Iowan who was instrumental in securing passage of the 19th Amendment. granting women access to the ballot box 100 years ago.
