Authorities in Marion County says a Colfax man has been identified as the individual who went missing during a boating accident on the Des Moines River late Saturday afternoon.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says 34-year-old Dustin Dittmer of Colfax was on an airboat with two other people on the Des Moines River southeast of Runnels when the boat capsized.
According to the sheriff’s office, the airboat was attempting to provide assistance to the occupants of another boat which had apparently become stranded after running out of gas.
All three occupants aboard the airboat were tossed into the water when the boat capsized while attempting to help the other occupants who were onboard the other boat.
Dittmer has not been seen since.
The other two people onboard the airboat were reported as being sale with no injuries.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is still searching for Dittmer with friends and family also volunteering with the search effort.
