The Marshalltown City Council has given City Police Chief Mike Tupper permission to proceed with implementing a new public safety camera program as a means of better protecting the city’s most vital investments for the foreseeable future.

At Monday’s meeting, the council authorized Tupper to return to the May 23rd council meeting with a resolution to form a committee and proceed with the purchase of new camera equipment for public safety.

According to Chief Tupper,  the City of Marshalltown does have some cameras already in place in different areas of the community which have proven vital in curbing certain types of crime.

As the community of Marshalltown looks to grow and prosper, Chief Tupper feels now is the right time to further look at more efficient ways of better protecting the city’s most vital investments for the immediate future.

At Monday’s meeting, the council also approved a contract with Con-struct Corporation for the Edgewood Street Extension project.  The project is expected to be completed in the fall of 2023.

The council also approved formal plans, specifications and a form of contract for the State Street Reconstruction Project, the first phase of the city Downtown Implementation Plan, which is slated to run from 3rd Street to 3rd Avenue.  The total cost of the project is estimated at five-point-seven-million dollars.
