The Ames Fire Department was called to a local apartment complex on Tuesday afternoon after a carbon monoxide alarm was activated inside the building.
At around 3:30 p.m., local fire crews were summoned to the Union Apartment Building located at 2700 Lincoln Way.
Upon arrival, firefighters found a contracting crew operating gas-powered equipment inside on the first floor.
The building was evacuated and monitored for carbon monoxide with high-powered electric fans being used to ventilate the entire structure.
Three individuals were evaluated for carbon monoxide poisoning and released by paramedics on the scene.
Two businesses in the building were also impacted for a short time until safe carbon monoxide levels were confirmed.
Residents were allowed to return to their apartments after carbon monoxide was cleared from the building.
