The Marshalltown Fire Department was called to a reported structure fire early Wednesday morning on South Second Avenue in the central part of the community.

At around 12:40 a.m., fire crews were dispatched to a home located at 910 South Second Avenue.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they discovered heavy smoke and flames extending outward from a two-story residence.  Due to the nature of the fire, a defensive operation was established.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and then conducted an internal search of the building with no one being located inside.

Local fire crews remained on the scene for a time afterward conducting overhaul operations and investigation.

No injuries were reported.

Some fire damage was noted to an adjacent property area, according to a department press release.
