The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office is advising citizens of an apparent phone scam which has been reported recently by a number of area residents.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office reported that they had received multiple calls from residents reporting that phone scammers were using the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office telephone number (641) 754-6380.

According to the sheriff’s office, the scammer begins by notifying the person there is a warrant out for their arrest.  The caller then attempts to get the person to provide personal information and instructs them to purchase gift cards to satisfy the arrest warrant.

Anyone who may be unsure about the call is advised to contact the sheriff’s office at (641) 754-6380 or the Marshall County Communications Center non-emergency number at (641) 754-5725 to verify the information.
