An Ames woman was recently arrested on an assault charge after she reportedly struck a Story County Sherriff’s Deputy in the face while she was being held in a restraint chair while in custody at the Story County Jail.
According to court documents, 32-year-old Jessica Lee Souder had been ordered by a deputy to move from her cell into a disciplinary unit at the Story County Jail on May 27th.
Souder refused to comply and was eventually moved to a restraint chair. While in custody, Souder was able to successfully remove her left arm from the restraint chair strap, along with a portion of her left shoulder.
As jailers were attempting to get Souder under control, she struck an officer in the face with her elbow, causing the officer’s lip and face to swell.
Souder was subsequently arrested and later charged with one count of Assault on a Peace Officer.
