A week-long battle was held recently between Iowa and New York to determine the winner of the “Best Burger” contest between the two states.

The contest featured The Flying Elbow of Marshalltown, Iowa with its “Tombstone Smashburger” vs. the Ale N’ Angus Pub of Syracuse, New York with its prized entry “The Holy Smoker’s Burger.”

The voting period came to a close on Monday, June 13th at 11:59 p.m. with The Flying Elbow receiving 2,953 votes while the Ale N’ Pub tallied 1.120 votes.

This is the second year Iowa’s Best Burger has won the friendly competition between the two states.

Kylie Peterson, Director of Marketing and  Communications for the Iowa Beef Industry Council, says the process of determining Iowa’s Best Burger initially began during the early stages of this year.

She says even though both states were actively involved with staging their own burger contests at the same time, the manner in which they go about promoting the beef industry, in general, is quite different.

Peterson further adds The Flying Elbow, which is owned by Garrett Goodman, had thoroughly enjoyed the many benefits that go along with claiming the title of “Iowa’s Best Burger.”

The management and staff at The Flying Elbow can also be found serving their award-winning burger at the Cattleman’s Beef Quarters at the Iowa State Fair on Friday, August 12th starting at 10 a.m., while supplies last.
