An Ackley woman was airlifted to a Mason City hospital on Sunday evening after the car she was driving collided with a sport utility vehicle at a Highway 3 intersection in Franklin County.

Sixty-nine-year-old Penny Anderson of Ackley was traveling northbound on Franklin County Road S56 when she failed to stop for a stop sign upon entering the intersection of Highway 3 and was struck by an eastbound sport utility vehicle operated by fifty-eight-year-old Roberta Scarrott of Aplington.

Anderson was transported by air med helicopter to a Mason City Area Hospital while Scarrott was taken to Franklin General Hospital in Hampton for treatment of injuries suffered in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation.
