Several area residents took part in this year’s annual “Grandma’s Marathon” in Duluth, Minnesota on Saturday, June 18th.
Some prominent residents from Story County were among those participating in this year’s 26.2 mile running event.
Runners included Tim Couser, a Nevada area farmer; Drs. Jordan and Mackenzie Wehner, practicing dentists; and Josie Lemke and friend Lori Staples.
Madeline Sheldahl, Ballard High School alumni, also participated with her friend, Jacob.
Runners were transported from Duluth to just south of Two Harbors with the course following Old Highway 61 along the shore of Lake Superior.
The 26.2 mile race finished in Canal Park near the Duluth Harbor with much celebration including finisher medals, finisher t-shirts, and copious amounts of water and gatorade.
Nevada High School Agriculture Instructor and FFA Advisor Kevin Cooper spent time at the historic Fitger’s Luxury Hotel, which was a brewery in years past, but now is a remodeled hotel located adjacent to the Lake Superior coastline.
